CalibSun’s history
From PV engineering to forecasting
CalibSun was created in 2023 by Nicolas Thévenin and Sébastien Pitaval, the founders of Solaïs, a solar engineering consultancy established in 2008. The company was built on a clear conviction: satellite models and numerical weather prediction models alone are not sufficient to produce the accurate, reliable forecasts that today’s energy market demands. Local, on-site data must be at the core of every forecast.
Their ambition was to bring operational-grade irradiance and PV production forecasting tools to energy industry professionals worldwide, grounded in both field experience and scientific rigor.
CalibSun is the result of more than 15 years of collaborative research with the O.I.E. (Observation, Impacts, Energy) laboratory at Mines Paris – PSL, one of France’s leading engineering schools and a key contributor to IEA PVPS. CalibSun is a founding member of the SciDoSol Research Chair, alongside RTE, the French transmission system operator, and TotalEnergies, among others.

Nicolas Thévenin
CEO / Co-founder
Nicolas Thévenin co-founded Solaïs in 2008 and its subsidiary CalibSun in 2023. Entrepreneur, marketing, and strategy expert, he has over 20 years of experience in renewable energy, telecommunications, and digital technology sectors.
Expert in developing photovoltaic project portfolios, he has led the development, acquisition, and operation of photovoltaic assets in Europe and Asia.
Sébastien Pitaval
Co-founder
Sébastien Pitaval started his career in the space industry and co-founded Solaïs in 2008 and its subsidiary CalibSun in 2023. His interest in renewable energies, convictions, and entrepreneurial spirit led him to the photovoltaic sector.
He develops R&D and engineering activities while implementing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) since 2012 within the company. He is also an expert witness at the Aix-En-Provence Court of Appeal.
