Expert in Data Science
Data science is the discipline that covers three tightly linked pillars: the algorithms that transform raw inputs into forecasts, the data architecture that governs where information is collected, processed and stored, and the security framework that protects it at every step.
Mastering your data from ingestion to insight
In an industry where global renewable capacity is growing at record pace and grid management faces mounting demand pressure, the ability to process sensitive operational data securely, in compliance with local regulations, and to deliver actionable forecasts in real time, is a market requirement.
Our solutions are underpinned by academic research, developed in scientific collaboration with Mines Paris – PSL, and grounded in peer-reviewed publications (IEEE, EUPVSEC). Driven by a deep commitment to R&D, we advance the science of solar forecasting while embedding data sovereignty and cybersecurity, including SOC 2 Type 2 certification in progress, at the architecture level from day one.
Our data expertise
Probabilistic forecast
A probabilistic forecast quantifies the forecast uncertainty attached to each prediction of photovoltaic power output. This approach is becoming structural for IPPs, energy traders, aggregators and grid operators, who must arbitrate between solar power generation scenarios.
Data Sovereignty
At CalibSun, data management is embedded at the architecture level from day one, ensuring that sensitive energy data from solar plant is processed in the country or region where it legally must be.
Data Security
Managing your data with care and efficiency
Uncertainty Quantified
Probabilistic forecasting delivers a full distribution of outcomes, not a single value, enabling risk-based decisions on trading, storage, and dispatch.
Sovereignty by Design
CalibSun’s multi-region cloud architecture ensures data is ingested, processed, and stored within the country where it originates.
Security At every Layer
From AWS-hosted infrastructure to token-based authentication and SOC 2 Type 2 certification in progress, security is embedded end-to-end.
- Questions
Data science: your questions answered
What is the difference between a deterministic and a probabilistic solar forecast?
A deterministic forecast provides a single expected value per timestep. A probabilistic forecast provides a full distribution of possible outcomes (typically Q05 to Q95), quantifying the uncertainty attached to each prediction.
Why does data sovereignty matter for solar energy operators?
Solar plant operational data is sensitive and often subject to local regulations governing where it can be stored, processed, and transferred. Compliance requires cloud architectures designed to keep data within its jurisdiction of origin.
How does CalibSun secure client data?
CalibSun combines AWS enterprise-grade infrastructure, strict client environment isolation, token-based authentication (AWS Cognito), encrypted data transfer (HTTPS/SFTP), and is pursuing SOC 2 Type 2 certification.
What data sources feed CalibSun's forecasting models?
On-site measurements (irradiance, weather stations, sky imagers), satellite imagery, and numerical weather prediction (NWP) outputs, combined and weighted according to the forecast horizon.
